// about

StudiOH Core Limited undertook the renovation of the Alpha Institute, formerly known as the Alpha Cottage School, a historic vocational residential school located on South Camp Road in Kingston, Jamaica. Founded in 1880 as a “school for wayward boys,” Alpha became renowned for the discipline it instilled and its exceptional musical instruction. StudiOH Core’s work focused on restoring and revitalizing the school’s historic center, preserving its architectural and cultural legacy while introducing modern improvements. The design approach balanced heritage conservation with functionality, enhancing key spaces to better support student development, vocational training, and the school’s ongoing mission of nurturing structure, creativity, and growth.

The exterior photos reveal the careful restoration of the original architecture, with refreshed facades, clean lines, and subtle contemporary detailing that honors the school’s rich legacy. Fresh coats of paint in calming, welcoming tones brighten the structure while maintaining its timeless character.
